Prism Sound’s 2016 Mic to Monitor Tour Heads to BPM PRO
Over the course of two days, there will be inspirational panel discussions, informative seminars and opportunities to demo high end equipment.
Cambridge, UK. August 31st 2016: Mic to Monitor, Prism Sound’s popular educational seminar tour, is heading to BPM PRO in September for a special two-day schedule of music production seminars, panels and guest speakers.
Targeted at music production students, hobbyists and professionals, Mic to Monitor aims to dispel the many myths surrounding the recording process. The events answer those all-important questions such as what makes great gear great, what does it take to become a successful and in demand audio engineer, how do recording professionals tackle different aspects of their productions and how is a hit sound achieved?
Graham Boswell, Sales Director of Prism Sound, says: "Mic to Monitor has become an incredibly successful brand and we are delighted to be part of BPM PRO in 2016. No matter where you are in the world, there are always new recording tricks and techniques to be learned, even by people who are already making a successful living in this field. That’s what Mic to Monitor sets out to achieve – to impart knowledge by providing a vehicle for recording professionals to share their experience with the next generation of audio engineers."
BPM PRO takes place at the Genting Arena, NEC, Birmingham, on Sunday 11th September and Monday 12th September, 2016.
Roni Size and the Utah Saints
On the first day of the show, Mic to Monitor will include an Audio Interface session presented by Jody Thorne, Sales and Marketing Manager for Prism Sound, and with guest engineer Mandy Parnell. There will also be a session on Studio Monitors with Unity Audio.
The main panel at 3pm is entitled Women in Music and will be hosted by DJ and B-Side Project remix contest founder Yvette Chivers. Panelists include Estelle Rubio (Producer), Krystal Roxx (DJ/Producer) and Mandy Parnell (Mastering Engineer). They will discuss the current situation with regards to women as producers and engineers in the music industry. It will aim to dispel any myths regarding inequality in the music industry and encourage aspiring female DJs and producers to get involved.
The panel will be followed by An Audience With Utah Saints, in which the house legend duo will talk about their extensive careers in the music industry and answer questions from the audience. To date, Utah Saints have released 9 Top 40 UK hits, 4 of which hit the Top 10, sold over 2 million records worldwide, supported U2 on a UK and European tour, set up and promoted club nights and recorded and presented shows for radio stations such as Radio 1, XFM, Galaxy, Kiss and Ministry of Sound. As well as running their own record labels, producing other artists and running their own commercial studio in the heart of Leeds, the duo have also recently moved into the world of film soundtracks and trailer music.
On Monday, Mic to Monitor will include an Audio Interface session with guest producer Jez Willis and a second Studio Monitors session with Unity Audio.
The main 3pm panel entitled The Remix Culture will be hosted by Prism Sound’s Jody Thorne and panelists will include Jez Willis (Utah Saints), Roni Size, Greg Marshall (Association for Electronic Music), Ashley Howard (PRS For Music) and Yvette Chivers (B-Side Project). They will discuss how music collaboration has grown over the years specifically in electronic music, the benefits to artists and producers, how technology has developed to assist this, and the legal implications of collaboration and sampling.
Mic to Monitor at BPM PRO will culminate with An Audience With Roni Size. AKA Ryan Williams, Roni Size is a founder member of Reprazent, which won a Mercury Prize with New Forms. He will discuss his career highlights and provide insights into his dance music and production inspirations.
