Renowned DJ and producer Steve Mac joins the Orpheus Fan Club
Cambridge, UK: Producer Steve Mac has joined a growing band of music recording professionals who are happy to endorse Prism Sound's high quality Orpheus FireWire computer interface.
Steve Mac
Mac invested in an Orpheus for his main studio because he loved the sound quality that Prism Sound units deliver. Since installing Orpheus, Mac has used it on virtually every project he has tackled. Most recently these have included an artist album ROOTS for Nic Fancuillis' Saved Records ( Released 16th may 2011 ) and productions for two new bands.
Steve Mac's first foray into House music began in 1990 when he met his production partner, Rob Chetcuti, and the two went on to form the hugely successful production/DJ duo The Rhythm Masters, which had enormous success with smash remixes such as Todd Terry's 'Jumping' and Jaydee's 'Plastic Dreams'. The duo cemented their position at the top in 1997 when they won the No. 1 slot as Music Week's Remixers of the Year and were voted in the top 5 Remixers of the Decade by DJ magazine.
Now working solo as a producer, Steve Mac is usually to be found in Brighton, Sussex, where he has his own recording studio.
"I'm running a vintage MCI console with lots of outboard including Neve 1073s, Pultecs, Urei compressors, LA2s, SSL, Lexicon reverbs and an Eventide 8000," he says. "I also have lots of vintage analogue synths, a big Genelec monitoring system and even a Studer A80 tape machine. I have many converters in my chain but I use the Prism Sound Orpheus to record into because I love the sound of this machine."
Sound quality was the key reason why Mac decided to invest in an Orpheus.
"I use it for all my recording because it has a great punch and holds all of the frequencies of the recording," he explains. "I also love the soft limit feature - I just clip it slightly on the master recording and it adds all the warmth you need on a pre master. The trick is to use it very gently and not overcook it - if you do that the results are amazing. The Prism Sound Orpheus is, without doubt, my favourite converter."
