Orpheus brings audio fidelity to Colombian musicians and film/TV industry
Cambridge, UK: In Colombia, the word "Todero" means someone who can do everything, which, in an audio sense, is an apt description of Felipe Valencia.
Filipe Valencia and Orpheus
Based in Bogotá, Felipe has handled audio post for commercials, short films, international television series, soap operas and movie soundtracks. He has also worked on musical scores, recorded location audio and SFX for international clients and turned his hand to music production and mastering. Alongside all this he also has his own band, which after five years has just completed its second album.
The latest project on Felipe's horizon is establishing his own recording facility, which will enable him to record more complex live instrument ensembles and where his clients will have a comfortable place to work. The facility will have two studios and will be based in the heart of Colombian capital, Bogotá.
"After more than a decade of renting spaces here and there, I am finally getting my own commercial space," he says. "I am really excited about this as it gives me the opportunity to design my own audio rooms and share a place dedicated exclusively to audio and music production."
Among the equipment that Felipe is installing is a Prism Sound Orpheus interface, which he is using in conjunction with Logic Pro and Pro Tools. He also has a comprehensive range of third party plug-ins, virtual instruments and outboard equipment including valve compressors and some vintage analogue tape/open reel machines.
"I like to travel and create music outside the studio, so portability combined with the best possible audio quality are a must for me," Valencia says. "The Orpheus fits my criteria very well and I am very happy with it. It is a truly honest and pristine device."
Valencia placed his order for a Prism Sound Orpheus at the Miami Music Festival in November 2010, but he based his buying decision on good experiences he had previously had with Prism Sound equipment.
He explains: "I have a friend (Erick Urbina) who owns and runs an amazing mastering and recording facility in Coyoacan, Mexico City. We recently mastered our album with him using a Prism Sound ADA-8XR multichannel converter, which I thought was magic. The Orpheus offers the same pristine audio converters. Our unit is going to be the heart of Room B, where it will be used for all music production."
Valencia's new audio facility will be opening in early 2011 and it will be used for a wide variety of projects including music recording and audio post.
"We are also offering Digital Music Distribution to our artists and we produce a regular Podcast called Bogocast where we expose local musicians to the world," he says. "Our clients cover a very broad spectrum that includes TV people, film directors, ad agencies, SFX library producers, musicians (of all types), even YouTube filmmakers!
