Luke Fellingham invests in an Orpheus for his Luna Sound Mastering facility
Cambridge, UK: One year after acquiring his first Prism Sound Orpheus FireWire computer interface, engineer Luke Fellingham has invested in a second unit so that he has access to 16 channels of Prism Sound conversion for multitrack recording projects.

Fellingham is the owner of mastering facility Luna Sound, which is housed in the ICC Studios complex in Eastbourne. When he moved his Luna Sound operation into a former mastering studio at ICC, he took the opportunity to refurbish the room's acoustics and to invest in some new equipment. One of his key purchases was the Prism Sound Orpheus unit, which he now uses for all analogue to digital and digital to analogue conversion.
"I've been very happy with the quality of the sound that I get from Orpheus, so when my brother and I began recording a new album with our band Phatfish, we decided to buy a second unit so that we could scale up our conversion to 16 tracks for multitrack sessions. The flexible connectivity enabled us to quickly integrate the Orpheus units into the existing studio setup. The extra tracks meant we could record the whole band without having to compromise the sound."
Phatfish, a popular addition to many Christian events and conferences, consists of Luke Fellingham, his brother Nathan and sister-in-law Lou Fellingham, Mike Sandeman, Jos Wintermeyer and Ben Hall. The band's new album, In Jesus, was recorded at producer Kavan frost's Blue Room studio and was subsequently taken back to Luna Sound for mastering.
"Luna Sound's set-up is based around a Logic system, which I use in conjunction with various analogue EQs and compressors," Fellingham explains. "Having Orpheus has helped improve the quality of my conversion so that I get the best out of my outboard gear. Because it runs its own built-in low-jitter digital clock, it has also made my mastering system much more stable."
Now that the project has been completed Nathan Fellingham, who is a producer and songwriter, has taken the second Orpheus back to his home studio where he is using it for general programming and production work.
"We had no hesitation in buying another Orpheus because we knew from experience that the sound quality would be amazing," Luke Fellingham says. "It is such a flexible unit and the fact that it is a one box solution makes it incredibly easy to use."
Luke Fellingham is now working on a number of mastering projects for ICC's own record label including various projects for New Wine and Spring Harvest. The new Phatfish album was released on June 4th and is available through the band's website - www.phatfish.net
