Producer Alan Emptage invests in Prism Sound's high quality audio
Cambridge, UK, May 2008: Producer Alan Emptage has invested in a Prism Sound ADA-8 multichannel converter which has been installed in his private studio in London.Prism Sound's ADA-8 can be configured in numerous ways using plug-in modules to suit a wide variety of applications. Alan Emptage is using his ADA-8 as a high-resolution interface for his Pro Tools HD3 system.
"The quality of Prism Sound converters is well known throughout the recording industry," he says. "I was sold after having a demo and realising that the ADA-8 did everything I needed it to do - and more. I'm currently using it for straightforward A/D and D/A conversion during the recording process. It is giving me very clean, transparent audio and I'm delighted with the results I'm achieving."
Housed in part of The Premises Studios in Hackney, Emptage shares his facility with his business partner Cass Lewis (bass player with Skunk Anansie) and the two collaborate on a number of productions. The studio is equipped with an 80-channel Amek console with its centre section replaced with an SSL XRack summing box. The studio also contains a large selection of vintage outboard equipment including Pultec EQs, GML EQs and Neve mic pre-amps.
"This is where the Prism Sound unit comes into its own," Emptage explains, "because you can track repeatedly in and out of Pro Tools without any loss of signal quality."
Emptage and Lewis are currently working on a new project that, for various reasons, they can't say too much about at this stage. However, Emptage says that the Prism Sound ADA-8 is proving very useful because the project involves the use of plenty of analogue equipment.
"We're using it to provide multiple outputs for external summing," he says. "It is only when you hear a whole session that's been tracked through the ADA-8 that you really get it. Mixes start to mix themselves - well, almost! Certainly, things do seem to sit down in the mix a lot quicker."
