METROPOLIS CHOOSES PRISM SOUND CONVERTERS FOR THE LIVE 8 DVD
London
– July 2005:
Following on from this weekend’s spectacular Live 8 gigs,
London’s Metropolis Studios is gearing up for the marathon
task
of mixing, mastering, compiling and authoring the audio from the
concerts for subsequent DVD release.
To facilitate this process, Metropolis is utilising ADA-8 multi-channel
converter and processor units from Prism Sound, including its recently
purchased ADA-8XR units. Building on the success of the ADA-8, the XR
operates at sampling rates up to 192kHz and boasts even greater
analogue performance. Metropolis Studios is well stocked with Prism
Sound equipment, including A/D and D/A converters and Maselec Master
Series EQs and compressors. The facility was the first in the UK to buy
ADA-8XRs and according to John Goldstraw, Head of Technical Development
at Metropolis, they are ideally suited to mastering applications.
“We recently added to our compliment of ADA-8s to include the
newly launched XRs because this allows us to integrate into our current
DigiDesign Pro Tools HD systems without the need for reinvestment in
all new hardware. They also allow us to add to the already superlative
audio quality we’ve come to expect from Prism
Sound.”
Hailed as ‘The Greatest Gig On Earth’, Live 8
featured a
galaxy of rock stars who performed at venues across four continents. In
London alone, 200,000 fans witnessed the spectacle, which was aimed at
persuading G8 leaders to end global poverty.
The audio for the DVD, which is scheduled for pre-Christmas release,
was recorded onto Pyramix and transferred to Pro Tools at Metropolis in
readiness for the mixing process. It will be mastered at 96k 24 bit.
