dS-NET VSIO Adapter Launched
Adding to the range of peripherals that extend the capabilities of the dScope Series III, Prism Sound has now released the dS-NET VSIO Adapter. This allows the dScope to interface directly with digital audio signals at board-level by converting serial audio data such as I2S to AES3 (AES/EBU). It's control and use is tightly integrated into the dScope software although it can also be used as a stand-alone device controlled by a PC.
Typical applications are in the development and testing of:
- board level components such as A-D and D-A converters
- modular equipment where audio is passed between modules on serial interfaces
- Automotive multi-channel audio and
- service and fault-finding on digital systems.
The name VSIO is an acronym for Versatile Serial I/O. This reflects the fact that the adapter is not just designed for a single standard such as I2S but can be configured for a range of different applications. Much thought has been given to the user interface so as to make it as straight-forward as possible. For example, to get the formatting of the data, clocks and timings correct for the device under test, there is a graphical representation of the various signals. These can be compared to the diagrams that are typically provided in the data sheets on digital serial interfaces and devices. The dS-NET VSIO Adapter has the capability to handle up to 16 audio channels and provides routing to allow the dScope to generate audio on any or all of the channels, and choose any two channels for analysis.
The dS-NET VSIO Adapter also provides a control bus interface to allow the dScope to send and receive messages over an I2C or SPI connection. This, along with the dScope's powerful scripting capabilities, makes it possible to control the device or devices under test automatically to provide a complete test solution.
