SADiE 6 FAQs
General FAQs | |
? | Will SADiE 6 work with my SADiE hardware? |
SADiE 6 is intended to work with any hardware that supported SADiE 5.6 (aside from DSD8), although it no longer depends on it and can run natively on Windows computers with no SADiE hardware connected. Since the release of 64 bit support with SADiE 6.0.5 in September 2012 this situation has become somewhat more complicated since the 32 bit versions will work with the SADiE 5 hardware, but the 64 bit versions do not yet.

? | Will my plug-ins from SADiE 5 work with SADiE 6? |
SADiE continues support for the third-party custom engineered plugs-ins from previous versions, but new licences will be required if running without SADiE 5 hardware - this is due to the licensing scheme for SADiE5 plug-ins that relied up on the SADiE DSP card. A transfer of the licence from your DSP card to a standard SADiE6 licence (which will work on DSP cards or native) can be arranged with your dealer.

? | Are the file formats compatible between SADiE 5 and SADiE 6? |
Yes, as long as SADiE6 is operating in SADiE5 compatibility mode. This is an option in "Project Management Set-up" called "always save projects in SADiE5 format".

? | Will SADiE6 work with my version of Windows? |
SADiE6 will run on all versions of Windows 7, 8 (except RT) and 10 – both 64-bit and 32-bit (for which you need to choose the correct installer) Currently there are no 64-bit drivers available for SADiE5 DSP hardware; LRX and BB2 drivers are expected to be released in early 2013. It's expected that SADiE6 will run on Windows Vista, however there has been no exhaustive testing. SADiE6 was tested on Windows XP 32-bit, however since Microsoft have retired XP as of April 2014, we are no longer able to off support for it. In the European Union, Microsoft sell editions of Windows labelled with an "N", eg. "Windows 7 N" which are supplied without Windows Media Player. You will need to install Windows Media Player before attempting to install SADiE 6 on such a version of Windows. FAQ ID = 180

? | Will SADiE work with Anti-virus software? |
Yes – however it has been noticed that setting your AV software so that it doesn’t scan the SADiE audio folders can greatly improve the time it takes to go into play.
If your antivirus software supports it, you could alternatively set it to stop scanning all WAV, PFM, PFL and PFR files. FAQ ID = 191

? | SADiE takes a few seconds to go into 'Play' - why is this? |
Although there may be other reasons, one reason that seems quite common is that anti-virus software is scanning the source files as they are loaded. Setting your anti-virus software so that it doesn't scan your SADiE audio folders should improve this.
If your antivirus software supports it, you could alternatively set it to stop scanning all WAV, PFM, PFL and PFR files. FAQ ID = 192

? | Will SADiE6 run on a Mac? |
SADiE is Windows software and will not run under OS X, however both SADIE5 and SADiE6 have been well-tested on Intel Mac computer hardware running Bootcamp (ie., Windows on Mac hardware).
For SADiE5 you would need USB connected SADiE hardware (eg., the LRX2 or BB2/BB2J) on Intel Macs under Windows XP 32-bit. SADiE6 offers more flexibility of Windows operating system: 32 and 64-bit versions of Windows 7 & Windows 8 (not RT) work. No special issues have been encountered in running under Bootcamp compared to running with a "standard" PC running Windows. There may be virtual machine software packages that can run Windows inside Mac OS X however we would recommend using Bootcamp instead. Some users have had success using virtual machines but we cannot offer any support for these. FAQ ID = 204

Installation FAQs | |
? | How do I get the SADiE6 Software? |
Please visit the SADiE 6 download page and fill in a download request form. You will then be emailed a link which will take you to the download page. The link is only valid for 7 days so it's best to get the download right away if possible. If not, simply fill in the form again when you're ready. If you have previously filled in the form, simply fill in only your email address and if it is recognised you will be taken directly to the download page.
The downloads are all Windows executable installers. There are three versions - 32 bit and 64 bit and combined/auto-detecting. Simply save the appropriate one for your operating system and run it to install the software. The combined/auto-detecting installer includes both the 32-bit and 64-bit versions and is twice as big and takes twice as long to download, but can detect which version your operating system is and install the right one. ? | I've filled in the download form, but didn't get an email. What do I do? |
When you have filled in the download form, it will say where it has sent the email. It does this after it has sent the email as confirmation that the email has been sent. If you don't receive the email within a minute or two, the most common causes are:

? | Can SADiE6 be run under Windows 10? |
Yes.
Windows 10 has been tested and SADIE6 works as expected. If you're upgrading to Windows 10 you will need to re-install the SADiE software after the upgrade. The Windows 10 "upgrade-keep-apps" process does not migrate SADIE's drivers correctly and so after the upgrade SADiE will fail. But this is easily resolved by re-installing the software. If you are running v6.0, then you need to uninstall first via Control Panel / Add Remove Programs. If it's v6.1, the v6.1 installer will automatically uninstall first. The re-install won't affect data or settings, it merely replaces the program files and re-installs the drivers. The Windows 10 upgrade has been seen to spoil a number of other software and drivers. Operation of SADIE6 may rely on an audio device or VST plugin to be working correctly, so it's a good idea to check that other devices and software are Windows 10 compatible. FAQ ID = 234

Trouble Shooting FAQs | |
? | Why do I hear drop-outs (clicks and pops)? |
Your CPU needs a certain amount of time to process audio samples. We recommend that you optimise your computer for audio processing and disable any unnecessary applications. The higher the channel count and the more plug-ins in use the faster and more highly optimised your computer will have to be. There will always be a limit to what can be achieved.
On Windows, the impact of CPU load can be reduced by using ASIO drivers and setting the Buffer Time values higher (View Menu -> Set-up Window -> Native Drivers -> Control Panel) . Note that drop-outs will be inevitable if this value is set too low. DPC Latency problems with Windows Latency issues with Windows drivers and Deferred Procedure Calls (DPC) can cause problems with streaming audio and video. These are generally noticed as drop-outs (pops or clicks) in audio streams, and can affect the operation of interfaces (such as Orpheus or ADA-8XR) or audio application software such as SADiE. Note that this problem affects both PCs and MACs if they are running Windows, especially Windows7. We have noticed an increase in these problems lately, perhaps as a result of most Windows PCs now being shipped with Windows7 64-bit OS as standard. This has caused many PC peripheral vendors to hurriedly replace their tried-and-trusted 32-bit drivers with new 64-bit drivers, some of which may be under-tested. Thesycon offer a convenient DPC Latency Checker tool which can be downloaded from http://www.thesycon.de/eng/latency_check.shtml. The Checker displays a continuous graphical indication of DPC latency, which indicates if your PC has such a driver problem. However, the Checker is unable to identify which driver is causing the problem: this must be done by opening the Windows Device Manager and Task Manager and experimentally disabling non-essential services and devices. More detailed and helpful information is included on the Latency Checker web page. FAQ ID = 202
