Glossary definition of 'Modular Digital Multitrack'

(MDM) This now somewhat antiquated term was used to refer to machines such as the TASCAM DA-88 and Alesis ADAT digital recorders which recorded 8 tracks of digital audio to video tape. They were modular in the sense that they had to be used in multiple units synced together to work with more than 8 channels simultaneously.
