TRANSERV Broadcast Applications

In a number of countries Radio and TV output, domestic and foreign, is routinely monitored and recorded by both broadcasters and Government agencies. There are several different requirements for the recording system depending on the particular application.

The simplest and most obvious application is logging of broadcast transmissions in countries where the law mandates it. In addition, some broadcasters will do so even in non-regulated environments. Commercial broadcasters may log output so that evidence exists of transmission of advertising. Logs may be also be used in the event of disputes. Even in non-regulated situations it may be useful to have recordings in the event of, for example, legal proceedings such as libel or defamation. Also, live programmes may be archived for future use.

National Governments require up to the minute information about world events and this often requires recorded material to be carefully reviewed and analysed, usually resulting in written reports or transcriptions.

In addition, many countries have a regulatory body responsible for policing the use of the radio frequency spectrum. Monitoring of sources forms an important part of this role. It is advantageous that higher bandwidth recording is available, since good quality sound clips are sometimes re-broadcast as part of news or documentary programs. Consequently recording systems for the broadcast sector require greater flexibility in audio quality than is available from traditional telephone voice loggers. TRANSERV is well suited to this higher quality application because of its transcription interface and support for a variety of audio coding schemes (CODECs) at various bandwidths.

Integration with other systems and software is key to providing the flexibility and convenience needed in today's broadcast marketplace. Recording and playback can be remotely controlled or scheduled using industry standard software interfaces.
